Steven Brazier, a teenager with Asperger syndrome, weighed 266 pounds; so he was put on a weight-loss diet. But the diet triggered an eating disorder that was to become the cause of his death.
As he lost weight, his parents tried to get him help. He was hospitalized several times for his eating disorder but each time checked himself out. Finally his parents got him sectioned and involuntarily hospitalized, and under constant supervision he began to gain weight, his health stabilizing. But long before he had recovered, he was discharged from the hospital. The hospital tried to transfer him to an outpatient health care center, but the center didn't accept his case; so for the last few months of his life, Steven had no help whatsoever.
He finally died of a heart attack caused by his eating disorder, weighing only 112 pounds.
